Yesterday, I asked the Bitcoin community on Twitter, "Who is the most influential figure in Bitcoin outside of Satoshi Nakamoto?"
After receiving over 220 replies, I narrowed down the list of the most influential people in Bitcoin so you can understand who is having the largest impact on Bitcoin.
Influential Programmers
Nick Szabo, Hal Finney, and Adam Back were mentioned several times as contenders for the most influential.
Adam Back was actually mentioned in the Bitcoin Whitepaper by the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, himself, "To implement a distributed timestamp server on a peer-to-peer basis, we will need to use a proof-of-work system similar to Adam Back's Hashcash". Hal Finney received the first bitcoin transaction from bitcoin's creator Satoshi Nakamoto. Lastly, Nick Szabo is a pioneer in the cryptographer movement who created an early version of Bitcoin called BitGold and coined the term “smart contracts.”
Influential Educators
Michael Saylor, Saifedean Ammous, and Andreas Antonopoulos were mentioned several times as contenders for the most influential.
Andreas Antonopoulos began educating the world about Bitcoin in 2012 and has since published 6+ books related to Bitcoin. Saifedean Ammous is the author of The Bitcoin Standard, arguably the most influential Bitcoin book as it has been translated into 30+ languages. Michael Saylor has grown to become one of Bitcoin's most influential marketers by appearing nonstop in media and tweeting about Bitcoin over the past 2+ years.
Other Noteworthy People
Max Keiser and President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador also received many mentions as possible contenders.
The most noteworthy answer in my opinion is us. There is a famous saying in the Bitcoin community "We are all Satoshi". The most influential person in Bitcoin is each and every individual that pushes Bitcoin further along in its global adoption.
