💡 Daily Reminder: Stay humble, stack sats
Bitcoiners,
I have been working full-time in the bitcoin industry for 2+ years now.
Many friends in the bitcoin space asked how I transitioned my career as a civil engineer to work in bitcoin.
So, I thought I would explain how I networked with leaders and others in the bitcoin community to eventually land a job at Bitcoin Magazine, a media company with millions of followers and hosts of the largest Bitcoin Conference in Miami, FL.
Here’s a story and playbook YOU can copy to land a job in the Bitcoin industry:
Provide Value
If you do not have any meaningful connections yet in the Bitcoin community, start by providing value.
In January 2021, I cold messaged Robert Breedlove, a leader in the bitcoin industry and host of the popular podcast—The What is Money? show.
Here’s what I initially messaged him:
Although he did not have anything immediate he needed help with, Robert suggested I join his Telegram group to help with editing his articles.
So I did.
I immediately introduced myself to the group and began adding to the discussions. I even messaged a few members individually to build a deeper relationship. My intent was to provide value to Robert and network with other bitcoiners in the group.
An Opportunity Arises
A few months went by then one of the group members I made friends with came to me with an idea: "Hey, we should get members of this group together in person at Bitcoin 2021 in Miami."
I initially thought it was a great idea, so I asked the group if anyone attending the conference would come to an in-person meetup. A few people said yes which validated the idea.
I mentioned the idea to Robert Breedlove and he said he would attend & speak at the event. I was so excited!
With zero knowledge of how to organize and host an event, I got to work. I set up a ticketing system and began advertising the event. We landed on the name The Soul of Bitcoin. This is the flyer I made for the event:
Surprisingly, more people than I expected signed up to attend. The idea was becoming reality as we approached the night of the event.
After dealing with many last-minute hiccups, I had the chance to introduce Robert Breedlove to the crowd. He crushed his presentation in a packed room and received a roaring applause. The event turned out to be a massive success!
Throughout the event, I had the chance to meet with many members of the original group that helped spark the event and I made new friends in the bitcoin community. I still talk to some of these bitcoin enthusiasts regularly today.
Landing the Job
Fast forward to the end of summer 2021, I decided to apply to Bitcoin Magazine as an account manager. It is worth noting I previously worked as a civil engineer and did not have too many transferrable skills for a business type of role I was applying to. I had to lean on the recent event I helped organize.
Guess what I listed first on my resume?
"Managed and hosted a 150 person live satellite event during Bitcoin 2021 that generated [redacted] in revenue"
After applying, I reached out to someone I met during the event and asked if they can put in a good word for me with the hiring manager at Bitcoin Magazine. They did and I landed an initial interview.
I intentionally brought up the event during each interview round. Then, landed the job and successfully transitioned my career into bitcoin by providing value to leaders and networking with people in the bitcoin community.
How You Can Land a Job
If you made it this far and want to transition a career to work in bitcoin, copy the playbook I outlined above of providing value and networking (not exactly but hopefully you get the idea).

Thanks for inspiring me! I just applied for my first Bitcoin job online 🙂
You're totally right about the approach - it's all about networking, being part of / finding a community and adding real tangible value. I think there's a piece here on 'micro-hyperbitcoinising' - i.e. not seeking to change the world, just changing oneself and orange-pilling those closest.
PS: Ibiza desperately needs a Bitcoin event like the one you have set-up.
