💡 Daily Reminder: Stay humble, stack sats
Bitcoiners,
This guide will show you how to start a Proof-of-Work (PoW) project related to Bitcoin.
If you've been in Bitcoin for some time, you might be wondering how you can get involved. A Proof-of-Work project is a perfect way to help grow the network while sharpening your personal skills and knowledge base. And if you plan on applying for jobs at a Bitcoin company, a PoW project is a perfect way to exemplify your work and put your resume at the top of the pile.
Unfortunately, many people do not contribute to the bitcoin ecosystem because they are not sure how to start.
This is the template I used to create my PoW project, Bitcoin EDU, and ultimately land a job at a Bitcoin company, Bitcoin Magazine.
Step 1: Choose a niche
We already established that you want to contribute to Bitcoin.
Now, ask yourself, what other topics am I interested in or have prior experience with? Choose an adjacent topic and pair it with Bitcoin. For example, let's say you like to snowboard. The niche topic of your PoW project can be Bitcoin & snowboarding.
Step 2: Define your goals
Clear, distinct goal(s) give you something to work towards.
Let's say you wanted to start a new Bitcoin podcast. A goal of yours can be to produce and publish 100 podcast episodes. A goal can also be results-based, so another potential goal can be to reach 1,000 unique downloads within a certain time period. Lastly, your goals can be qualitatively based, such as educating listeners about Bitcoin and (insert niche topic).
Step 3: Choose a medium
A medium is the type of outlet you prefer to use to create and publish your PoW project.
Here are some potential mediums:
Writing (digital blog, social media account, physical book)
Audio (podcasts)
Video (social media accounts, long-form documentaries, Youtube)
Art (digital art, physical art)
Coding (C++, Python)
If you are camera shy but love to talk, then opt for a medium that plays to your strengths such as audio podcasts.
Step 4: Develop a plan
Use the goal(s) you previously defined to develop a plan.
As an example, let's say your goal is to produce and publish 100 podcast episodes. Work backward from here. Set a deadline to publish 100 total episodes in one year, break up the number of episodes into 10 published per month, and commit to publishing 3 episodes per week.
Give yourself a deadline, split up the work into smaller achievable goals, and commit.
Step 5: Execute and publish
The most important part of a PoW project is actually doing the work and publishing it.
Whether it be publishing your project to social media, a personal blog, a website, etc, make sure you post your work for the world to see. One of three likely outcomes will come from publishing your work online:
Other people learn or are entertained by your project.
You gather feedback on what is benefitting others to reiterate your project and ultimately make it better.
A potential employer will pick up on your work and can be used to land a job in the bitcoin industry.
